Passenger Traffic

The goal of the term paper project is to consolidate the knowledge that was acquired while taking course “Passenger Traffic”, basing on the independent calculation of municipal passenger bus traffic, as well as to develop creative abilities and initiatives at the stage of solution of the above tasks by reviewing a considerable number of options and making independent decisions in the process of the engineering work.

Serving as the source data are the transport area network and number of passengers.

In the course of the term engineering work the following tasks are to be solved:

— generation of rational bus route pattern;

— graph-analytical calculation of driver’s work and bus operation conditions;

— identification of order for buses to enter the line;

— scheduling route bus traffic.

The rational bus route pattern is calculated. The final phase of calculation of competitive routes is verification of available majority of routes for consistency with constraints as regards population transport services. The next step involves calculation of the route correspondence matrix.

The graph-analytical calculation of route performance is made at the next stage.

Grounding on the route operation parameters specified in the assignment, there will be calculated the value of passenger stream on the route at every time of its operation. The route operation time is from 500 to 2300. The number of buses available on the route on every hour of its operation should be fixed, depending on the passenger stream value. The minimum requirement will be based on the assumption that the bus waiting time, which is spent by a passenger at a stop station, may not exceed 20 minutes.  The maximum potential number of buses will be fixed with the consideration of deficit coefficient.

The graph-analytical calculation of the route will be made. To do it, two modes of drivers’ work on the route will be provided: two-shift mode and interrupted mode.

Grounding on the graph-analytical calculation results, the hour-wise traffic intervals will be found.

The graph-analytical calculation data permit to approve the start and end time of operation of a release within one hour. To establish specific route bus traffic conditions, the schedule should be constructed. The band-chart method is the most common one.
